How to use it
- Paste Markdown from an AI assistant, a README or notes into the box.
- Check the live preview.
- Copy it as formatted text for documents and email, or as HTML for a website.
The copy-paste problem
When you copy an answer from some AI chat apps, or from an API response, you often get the raw Markdown underneath: hashes for headings, asterisks for bold, pipes and dashes for tables. Pasted into an email or a document, it looks like a mess. This converter renders the Markdown properly and puts it on your clipboard as real formatting, so headings stay headings and tables stay tables.
Which copy button to use
- Copy formatted text places rich text on your clipboard. Use it for Microsoft Word, Google Docs, Gmail, Outlook, Notion and most email newsletter editors.
- Copy HTML copies the HTML source code. Use it for website builders, blog editors in code view, or developers who need markup.
- Download .html saves a standalone web page you can open in any browser or attach to an email.
What is supported
The converter follows GitHub-flavoured Markdown, which is what ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini produce: headings, bold, italic, strikethrough, numbered and bulleted lists, nested lists, task lists, links, images, block quotes, inline code, fenced code blocks, horizontal rules and tables.
Worked example
You ask an assistant for a comparison of three condo projects for a client email, and it replies with a heading, a short paragraph and a Markdown table of prices, sizes and completion dates. Paste the reply here, choose Copy formatted text, and paste into Gmail. The table arrives as a real table with borders, ready to send, with no stray symbols.
Safety
Markdown can contain raw HTML, and HTML can contain scripts. Before showing the preview or copying HTML, the output is passed through DOMPurify, a widely used sanitiser that removes scripts, event handlers and other unsafe code. That makes the HTML safe to paste into a content management system. Everything happens in your browser, so drafts are not uploaded anywhere.
Questions
Why does my pasted text still show asterisks?
The app you pasted from copied plain Markdown, not formatting. Paste it here and use Copy formatted text to get real bold, headings and tables.
Does formatted copy work on phones?
Rich-text copying works in current versions of Chrome, Edge and Safari, including on most phones. If your browser does not support it, the tool copies plain text and tells you.
Is the HTML safe to put on my website?
The output is sanitised with DOMPurify, which removes scripts and other unsafe code. Review it as you would any content before publishing.
Can I go the other way, from formatting to plain text?
Yes. Use the AI text cleaner to strip Markdown symbols and get clean plain text.
